Abstract

The purpose of this study is considered how technological innovations and reverse logistics can sustain the growing pharmaceutical e-commerce industry. The study surveyed 385 respondents from various pharmaceutical companies. With the increasing popularity of e-commerce comes the growing issues of packaging waste, carbon emissions, and returned merchandise. The study describes how AI, automation, and other technologies that enable real-time tracking of shipments are transforming reverse logistics and by extension, sustainability of returns, recycling and remanufacturing. The study also recommends changes to pharmaceutical e-commerce to promote sustainability, and identifies obstacles to the adoption of green logistics and how reverse logistics can improve customer satisfaction, enhance the business image, and increase profitability of the industry. This study is valuable for the pharmaceutical e-commerce sector that is trying to improve the reverse logistics, reduce environmental impact, and sustain business success and competitiveness in an environmentally-friendly marketplace.
